Rediscovery relocated

Good news for Ballarat punters and passers through.
Rediscovery has moved and what a move it is. It's a massive location, car audio shop next to The Known World, if you don't know where that is then just go to the north side of Sturt St at the Bride 'Maul' and you'll see it.

It's massive, and has heaps of vinyl and CD's to choose from (Duff Man)OH Yeah!!! It feels like we have an independent again!

Go support it and buy stuff please.

Together again

Good news for fans of John Brack. The National Gallery of Victoria has just acquired the iconic "six o'clock swill" to it's collection. It's will sit nicely next to my favourite piece in the NGV, "Collins St, 5pm"

ANd the first ever retrospective of John Brack will take place at the NGV in April. Anyone fancy a weekend day trip to NGV followed by a Botanic Gardens sojourn?

I'm going to haunt you

A few years ago…2005 in fact I loved this particular song on the radio ‘I’m Going to Haunt You’. Every time I heard it on JJJ I’d listen for the name but could never catch it. The busyness of life distracted me from finding the album and years slipped by. However recently I find myself humming the song to myself. It drove me crazy not knowing who it was, so online I went.
I searched the Hottest 100 lists around 2004-05 and low and behold the song was voted in as #100 in 2004. So I finally discovered the mystery artisit, I have discovered Fabienne Delsol! I now have the album ‘No Time For Sorrows’ and it’s brilliant! I know I shouldn’t do this, but I have pretty well much played it constantly since Friday. It’s a mixture of 60’s girl pop and a bit of grit. Fabienne a French singer living in London. She has an interesting music history being a member of the Bristols in the late nineties. She’s on the record label ‘Damaged Goods’ and joined with one of my fav’s Holly Golightly.

Apart from the obvious single, the stand out tracks are ‘Laisse Tomber Les Filles’ (Drop the Girls) ‘Chills and Fever’ and ‘Pied Piper’. She sounds somewhere in between The Ronettes, Detroit Cobras and early Rolling Stones.

Yarn Over Movement

Today must be ‘rad people’ Friday, but I wasn’t notified, did you get the memo? I’m sitting here working away (very hard of course) and perusing through my Flickr pals and I discover endless amounts of talent, and not necessarily photographic talent but more along the lines of fashion/craft. There are some amazing folk out there……

Let me introduce you to one of these inspiring people. Just when you thought you have no time to be creative, work and have fun…then you definitely need to check out Tara – Lynn the knitting powerhouse behind ‘Yarn Over Movement’ based in Ontario, Canada she creates sweet knitted pieces that would fit in perfectly with our climate. I spotted her on Flickr and then discovered she had an extensive Etsy store. Check this out, Tara – Lynn will custom make your knitted request and send it to you ….thats hand made with love! How cool is that?!?

If you haven’t bought anything off Esty before please try it. There is a certain satisfaction that you’re getting a one off piece, unlike anything else. You just don’t get that feeling when you walk into a store and buy something only to find the person behind you in the queue is already wearing it!

There is a certain ‘vibe’ from supporting the ‘small’ world community. And buying something from Tara-Lynn is definitely on my agenda. Gifts for winter here we come!
Drop her a line any time.

And she has a blog..

Yokoo...keeps us warm (and looking fine)

So the last few days have been on the chilly side to say the least, especially in the mornings! If you like me and like to either walk or ride around the city instead of commuting then you might have started to think about transforming your wardrobe into something a little more practical and warm! It’s time to find those ‘essential’ items to help survive our trusty and reliable Ballarat winters.

Here is a crafty lady/artist on the other side of the globe that make amazing pieces to warm you on the coldest of days. She has a pretty comprehensive Etsy stores waiting for you to sift through with more gems than an African mine.

Yokoo was originally from New Haven, Connecticut, but now resides in the bungalow of Yale University. She’s been creating these amazing knitted/crocheted pieces for roughly five years. Not only is she a talented artist but her photos on Flickr have been keeping me amused for some time now. There’s an obvious sense of fun that’s sits closely to brooding and insightfulness. Read for yourself…

“Fashionably, my message is for women to discover who they
are without resorting to cheap sexuality. I feel that sexuality
in itself is an accessory. And it has been slumped around
the modern females' nape for far too long. In many cases
it has been just as heavy and burly as some of my own
creations. So maybe in exchange for my scarf, they can
give me theirs.”

“I really do come up with most of my design ideas. I mean
I invent them. Sometimes I find that some of my works
have already been invented, but more often than not,
many of the products are quickly copied and then resold
by smaller online retailers. I try to create my
own personal catalogue that reflects new and modern
lifestyle of young urban women, without resulting to the
use of sex appeal.”

I dare you to check out her Etsy store HERE.

buuurrrrr grab your jackets!!!!

How's this seasonal change in the weather? Good bye summer, well hello winter. Time to change your doona to duck down, dust off your jackets and buy some new gloves, beanies and scarves. Man I'm still diggin' Reefer Jackets/Pea Coats this year. I got one last year, and it's an ex-US navy jacket. It's pure wool, weighs a tone and looks timeless. Just the ticket for the ride into work on a 3 degree morning.

Here's some beauties for you to drool over. (Well maybe it's just me) The sad part is that you'd be hard pressed to find one in Ballarat {insert look of dismay}
You'll have to go to Melbourne. Diesel make some, or you could get one at a surplus store, 'Out of the Closet' (Flinders St/Brunswick St) or Retro Star on Swanston St

F'ing summer!

Is anyone kinda over Summer? Let me tell you I certainly am. I've never been a summer person at the best of times, but this year with hot weather and no f$#%ing rain I'm super dooper over summer. In any case I'm looking forward to wearing layers to fight the cold. I've just started riding to get fit and loose weight so hopefully by Winter I might be able to pull off some snappy looks (other than just jeans and black shirt).
