First time for everything

I've been wanting to make my own Gnocchi for like forever. I don't know what's been holding me back to be honest because even though there is a little prep work involved the end result was amazing. I used a basic potato and nutmeg recipe and made the most evil Gorgonzola cream sauce that was simply mind blowing. We had my folks over for dinner as our first special dinner guests in the new house, a sign of respect as the help they gave us for the house reno was amazing. Next off the list is Kims Dad who was a great help with finances!!

So if you get an invite for dinner at 'Orana' you might just be getting a version of home made gnocchi!

Oh and for the first time I have said yes to a 'free to a good home' kitten thats has a sad story of bogan abuse, but had been rescued by some lovely cat people next door and handed over to our care. He is called 'Bender' we inherited the name.....the ears were forcable and cruely bent back when he was a tiny kitten. Some people are really sick and should never be allowed to have pets.

Aww... kitty! I want another one. Bender is a sweet name for a cat.

And yum, when are you cooking that for me for dinner? ;-)

I think it might become a regular weekend dinner dish....maybe next time I might use pumpkin as the base.....maybe with some feta. Man the options are exciting!

Stunning photos! I can't believe that was your first attempt.
We bought a masher thingy in anticipation of some gnocchi making last week. What sort of potatoes did you use?

Well to be honest I just grabbed about 8 out of the draw...I have no idea what they where. I just used a small fine pasta strainer to get the soft bits of spud and then mashed it all by hand, added nutmeg, Salt, Black Pepper, egg and flour. It was so much fun and the taste with the sauce was seriously like wow! I varied away a little from the recipe but it seemed to turn out well just the same.
