Yokoo...keeps us warm (and looking fine)

So the last few days have been on the chilly side to say the least, especially in the mornings! If you like me and like to either walk or ride around the city instead of commuting then you might have started to think about transforming your wardrobe into something a little more practical and warm! It’s time to find those ‘essential’ items to help survive our trusty and reliable Ballarat winters.

Here is a crafty lady/artist on the other side of the globe that make amazing pieces to warm you on the coldest of days. She has a pretty comprehensive Etsy stores waiting for you to sift through with more gems than an African mine.

Yokoo was originally from New Haven, Connecticut, but now resides in the bungalow of Yale University. She’s been creating these amazing knitted/crocheted pieces for roughly five years. Not only is she a talented artist but her photos on Flickr have been keeping me amused for some time now. There’s an obvious sense of fun that’s sits closely to brooding and insightfulness. Read for yourself…

“Fashionably, my message is for women to discover who they
are without resorting to cheap sexuality. I feel that sexuality
in itself is an accessory. And it has been slumped around
the modern females' nape for far too long. In many cases
it has been just as heavy and burly as some of my own
creations. So maybe in exchange for my scarf, they can
give me theirs.”

“I really do come up with most of my design ideas. I mean
I invent them. Sometimes I find that some of my works
have already been invented, but more often than not,
many of the products are quickly copied and then resold
by smaller online retailers. I try to create my
own personal catalogue that reflects new and modern
lifestyle of young urban women, without resulting to the
use of sex appeal.”

I dare you to check out her Etsy store HERE.
